Casa Vale ~ Casa Pelu

Perhaps you know or may have guessed that in Romania time seems to stand still, that hardly anything is perfect and that sometimes things seem to be incomprehensible. Probably that's what makes the special charm of the country not to forget, of course, the untouched nature.

• CASA PELU • is a former farmhouse in the traditional village Vale, directly at the foot of the Carpathians. The building has been renovated carefully and with attention to detail respecting the traditional style of its builders as well as modern building physics and contemporary living needs.

We are located in the very heart of Romania in the south of Transylvania, next to Sibiu. The facility consists of three holiday homes that are for rent separately and only as units.

The property is located on a slope, in the loosly built part of the village with a splendid view on the wooded hills of the Carpathians. Following the creek you will find yourself already in the ascent to the mountain meadows surrounded by healthy mixed forest.

••• CASA PELU •••

is the old farm house. We have set a new loft on the strong foundations of the wine cellar and the raised ground. It consists of two bright rooms with access to the roofed terrace. The kitchen and a third room are downstairs.

All three rooms (16/12/16m² - one of them a passage room) are equipped with double beds an TV (Astra-Sat). We also provide internet connection. The windows are facing the court yard, to the west you enjoy a view into the wooded mountains and over the roofs of the village.

The kitchen (12m²) is accessible from two doors and fully equipped for self-catering: fridge, gas stove, toaster, espresso machine. There is also a tiled stove that heats the entire house.
The bathroom with tub, shower, washing machine and toilet is located under the terrace. It used to be the summer kitchen of the farm.

The whole equipment of the house is realtively new, including sanitary arrangements, kitchenware, mattresses and bedding (Sept. 2010). All the furniture was made to measure.

The central heating is solar-assisted. You have the choice: either you fire up the chimney-stove in the kitchen (firewood included) or you use the infrared panels (extra costs based on consumption).

An asphalted road touches the edge of the village, but the majority follows a stone road which runs up high into the remote hills.
Thus traditional structures and true hospitality could be preserved over the course of time. People here are still breeding cattle and poultry, they are working with scythes and are planting potatoes, maize and vegetables for preservation.

If you like the originality of the high places of the world, and if you want to meet the unique view of the mountains and the vastness of the underlying valleys, then this is the right place for you.
Leaving the property and following the creek a few yards, you will find yourself already in the ascent to the mountain meadows surrounded by healthy mixed forest. Once there, you may follow marked trails up into the mountains.
Flora and fauna of the Carpathians are unique in Europe. If you are not careful, you may stumble over lizards or salamanders while the mountain goats are laughing up their sleeves. Lovers of untouched nature will be spoiled for choice.

From Vale it’s just a stone's throw to the Transalpina, with 2.145m highest drivable route over the Carpathians - sometimes above the clouds. Built by the Romans in their war against the Dacians it was reattached by the German Wehrmacht, then fell into oblivion, and presents now one of the most unspoiled mountain regions of Europe.
On the way back most people chose the Valley of Olt, the only north-south passage through the Carpathians. Only those in a real hurry don’t take a brake to enjoy the breathtaking region.

Also the area surrounding Vale has much to offer: 5 lakes around the corner, dozens of wooden sculptures on Mount Santa above the village, open markets with farm products in the plane, Dacian ruins, Saxon church castles and caves, the brine water spas of Ocna ...
... and, of course, the old city of Sibiu with its towers, markets, museums, pubs and restaurants and a very unique, distinguished culture.
