Attractions Malbork

1. Teutonic Castle – 200 m

Teutonic Castle in Malbork is the largest Gothic castle complex not only in Europe, but also in the whole world. It was built at the turn of the 14th and 15th centuries, and for centuries it was the seat of, among others, great masters of the Teutonic Order, rulers of Prussia and kings of the Kingdom of Poland. The building is divided into three parts: the High Castle (with a huge representation hall, utility rooms, church), the Middle Castle (constituting palace residential interiors) and the Low Castle (mainly external fortifications, towers, defensive fortifications).

2. Staging “The Siege of Malbork”

One of the most interesting events that take place at the Malbork Castle is the cyclical, annual event “The Siege of Malbork”. Although the main part of the event is a reproduction of the events that took place in 1410 between the armies of the Kingdom of Poland and the Teutonic Order, the event itself abounds with numerous family attractions. Every year in July there are fairs, workshops (including calligraphy, military art, archery), tournaments and various kinds of shows (including knights, old dance shows, juggling shows, horse shows and artillery shows). At the Castle there are numerous stands with hot and cold snacks, drinks and handicrafts. History lovers will also find something for themselves: for a few days of the festival there are numerous lectures, workshops and lectures attended by researchers and historians from all over Poland.

3. Church of St. St. John the Baptist – 190 m

Church of St. John the Baptist in Malbork is a modest, Gothic church, which was built on the site of the thirteenth century, the oldest in the city. Although the original church was destroyed in the middle of the 15th century during armed battles, the existing building was rebuilt several decades later. The brick building is characterized by a compact, massive construction, but its interior is particularly interesting, where you can admire, among others, bas-reliefs, Renaissance epitaphs, two magnificent altars and numerous sacred objects.

4. Nogat – cruises and canoeing

An interesting, family attraction in Malbork is the opportunity to sail on the Nogata river, which flows right next to the magnificent Teutonic Castle. During the cruise you can admire not only the majestic building, but also the Old Town in Malbork and green corners and bird sanctuaries. Cruises start at the water marina right next to the castle and last about 1 hour.

5. Dinosaur Park in Malbork

DinoPark in Malbork is a great attraction for families with children. Its main part is a 1,350-metre-long educational trail, along which more than 40 giant, moving models of ancient reptiles are located. However, there are many more attractions waiting for you in DinoPark! Here you can see, among others, the Dragon Park, the Museum of Fossils and the Village of Cavemen. For the youngest there is a large square in the Land of Play, and for the older ones – screenings in the 5D cinema, a rope park, an exhibition of 3D paintings and a laser obstacle course. The unique attraction of this place are the shows. . . training of dinosaurs! They use the latest technology and robotics, thanks to which you can experience amazing effects and a wonderful spectacle where the animator will try to subdue the dinosaur. DinoPark in Malbork also hosts numerous cyclical events (such as Night Sightseeing, Space Battle, Witches' Gathering). The property is perfectly adapted to the needs of people with disabilities and families with small children, and on its territory there are many places to relax and several dining facilities.

6. External Fortification Museum

The Malbork Outer Fortification Museum is a path that leads through the city, covering the remains of ancient defensive walls and fortifications. On its route there are as many as twelve points, including: the Guardhouse, the Arsenal, the Pottery Bastion, the Stable and the Latin School. During the tour you can see, among others, part of the defensive walls or the place where once was a medieval market, which was the center of social life and trade. On the path there are multimedia points where films and presentations are broadcast, and the whole is made more attractive by Malbork’s mascot – Marianek – who tells about the history of the city in a funny and simple way. A great advantage of the tour is not only the opportunity to supplement the knowledge about the city and the former defensive buildings, but also the fact that this attraction is completely free for all participants of the tour.

7. Castle in Kwidzyn

Although Malbork Castle is certainly the most popular Teutonic building in the whole region, it is not the only defensive building from the Middle Ages. Just over 30 kilometers from Malbork there is a beautiful Gothic Castle in Kwidzyn, which was built in the 14th century. An interesting fact is that the buildings include the world’s longest arcade porch – a gdanisko at a height of several meters – which is more than 50 meters. In Kwidzyn Castle you can see, among others, an almost entirely preserved chapel with wall paintings from the beginning of the 14th century, as well as a perfectly preserved, 15th century Teutonic bombardment. The interior of the castle now houses a museum with a rich collection of numismatics, porcelain, medieval and Renaissance arts and crafts, as well as ethnographic and faunistic exhibitions. An additional attraction for visitors is the archaeological exhibition, which contains objects from the Stone Age.

8. Castle in Gniew

Lovers of architecture and historical buildings can also take a slightly further trip to Gniew (about 45km from Malbork), where there is another medieval castle, today a luxury hotel. Particularly noteworthy are the large SPA & Wellness zones, as well as saunas, swimming pools, whirlpools, water attractions for children and brine towers, which can be used by the guests of the hotel. The hotel offers luxurious, comfortable rooms, conference rooms and a restaurant serving excellent Polish and European cuisine. Gniew Castle also has attractions for the youngest – there are sports fields, a large outdoor playground, bicycle rental and a marina from which gondolas depart.

9. Tczewo boulevards and bridges over the Vistula River

Only 20 kilometers from Malbork is Tczew – a small, atmospheric town, which is famous for its beautiful, Vistula river boulevards. Promenades stretch on both sides of the Vistula, along which there are restaurants, bars, places to relax and playgrounds for children. A big attraction of the Vistula boulevards are water trams, which run regularly between Tczew and Gniew.

It is worth paying attention to the bridges on the Vistula in Tczew and its surroundings. The most important of them is the road bridge, which was built in the mid-19th century and at that time was one of the longest bridges in the world (more than 830 meters long). Although Tczewski Bridge is on the list of monuments of the world technology, there is a slightly younger and less representative Knybawski Bridge nearby.

In Tczewo you can also find many other attractions. It is worth visiting, among others, the Vistula Museum and the thirteenth-century Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. In Tczewo there is also a Dutch windmill from the beginning of the 19th century, over a century-old water tower and the beautiful Old Town, which is the central part of the village.

10. Old Town in Elbląg

The history of Elbląd dates back to 1237, when the city was founded by the first master of the Teutonic Order, Herman von Balk. Today Elblą Old Town impresses with its architecture and historic buildings. Interestingly, even new buildings are maintained in the old style. Within the Old Town there are many monuments, including the magnificent, dating back to the 13th century Church of St. St. Nicholas, perfectly preserved Market Gate (remains of old fortifications and defensive walls) and Church of St. Nicholas A ghost. A great impression is also made by the so-called church path, which is a narrow alley between the tenement houses, which connects three historic temples. The Old Town of Elbląg is also the centre of social, cultural and commercial life: within it there are shops, restaurants, museums, bars and beer gardens open during the summer season.

After seeing the Old Town of Elblą, it is worth visiting the local Archaeological and Historical Museum, which is located in the building of the former Teutonic castle. Among the thousands of exhibits, the oldest European eyewear from the 15th century, a medieval giterna (a musical instrument, one of only three found in world history) and weapons and militaria, the oldest of which are more than 800 years old.

11. Amusement Park New Holland

Amusement Park Nowa Holandia near Elbląg is an attraction that will delight not only the youngest tourists. Here you will find the world's largest air slide in the shape of a giant lion, which measures almost 30 meters high! There are many attractions for children and adults, such as an eco-learning trail, a rope park with two routes of varying difficulty, two bird sanctuaries (Birdhouse and Flying Island), a playground for the youngest and several themed islands that are reminiscent of the world's greatest monuments (Moai Island and Stonehenge Island). Also impressive are the Island of Illusions, the Island of Monsters and the Viking Village, where you can learn about the life of former Scandinavian warriors. An interesting way to visit some places in New Holland is a water tram ride. In the complex there are also restaurants and small fast-service bars, places to relax and a cosy hotel.

12. Malbork City Museum

Visiting Malbork cannot end without a visit to the Municipal Museum, which is housed in a historic merchant’s villa. The museum specializes in temporary exhibitions, which include works of art, documents, antique objects of everyday use and photographs related to the history of the city and the culture of the whole region. It also hosts numerous lectures, meetings with artists, art experts and historians, as well as workshops for children and young people, regular events, festivals and fairs.

13. The fountain in Malbork is one of the biggest attractions of the city. It is located in the center, right on the pedestrian zone. It is distinguished by music shows and light illuminations organized during the season.

Music shows take place at: 12:05 (after hejnal), 15:00, 17:00 and 19:00. The duration is about 15 minutes.
