Kecskemét, which has been the County Town of Bács-Kiskun County since 1950, boasts of all the beauty and treasures of the Great Hungarian Plain. It is located in Central Hungary, 85 km from the capital Budapest. This agricultural area has been famous for its orchards and vineyards for a long time. By the end of 19th century Kecskemét grew out of being only an agricultural town; it became a busy modern city with rich cultural life. Due to its favourable geographical location, Kecskemét has become the centre of administration, economy, education and culture in the region. The city gives home to cultural institutions, unique collections, and such prestigious events as the Hírös Week Festival (organized since 1934), Kecskemét Animated Film Festival (KAFF), the Kodály Arts Festival, and the International Children’s Festival organised by the Future of Europe Association.
