Jolanda Vendégház Szálka

Szálka is a real gem of Hungary. In 2017, the village won the award of having the most flowers in Hungary in a competition between the Hungarian tiny villages.

Szálka is located in Tolna County, on a Y shaped valley, and it’s surrounded by hills, forests and 2 reservoir lakes. The village offers many activities to do in the area for the guests who are staying there; the woodlands creates the possibility of hiking and hunting, the lake shore gives opportunity of local excursions and fishing, and the beach is ideal for swimming and renting a pedal boat during the summer. In addition, the area offers a wide range of sporting activities for those who want to relax, including swimming, cycling, running and horse riding. Special activities include local wine tasting events and organised wine tours to local wineries.

The local grocery store, tobacco shop, post office, community centre, salt room, library, exhibition hall and one end of the biggest lake that in a 60 hectares territory are in the centre of the village, 900 m from the Jolanda Guest House. There is also a high quality restaurant (open just in summer) with a garden area, also a pizzeria which provides a set menu on weekdays. There is also a famous restaurant about 1.2 km from the Guest House, open all year round.

The village of Grábóc is located near Szálka. It can be reached by car or even on a hiking tour along a direct 4 km paved road. Grábóc was made famous by the Serbian monks who were running from the Turks, settled here in 1580. It is worth visiting the Serbian Orthodox monastery, which is still inhabited by monks (German-speaking), and admiring the beautiful church of the monastery. Grábóc also has a wooden observation tower, which is worth exploring and climbing and need to be included into the programme.

The town of Bonyhád is located 12 km from Szálka. It boasts significant sights such as the Perczel Mansion (the birthplace of Mór Perczel), the Perczel Castle, the Székely Memorial Park. In the town you can also find thermal baths, restaurants, museums, exhibitions and shopping centres (Aldi, Lidl, Penny, TESCO).

Szálka is 13 km from Szekszárd. Szekszárd is the seat of Tolna County and the centre of the Szekszárd wine region. Wine City with 4500 cellars and many interesting sights. Among other things, worth visiting the Mihály Babits Memorial House, the Gingerbread Museum, the observation deck with a spectacular panorama of the town. There are several major shopping centres in the town (e.g. Interspar, Lidl, Penny, Tesco, Pepco, EcoFamily, New Yorker, C&A), and a self-service laundry for private use (Dubbles Laundry Szekszárd, 60 Széchenyi street). There is a skating rink, also skate and bicycle rental facilities in the town in winter. The waterpark of Szekszárd (Szekszárdi Családbarát Strand- és Élményfürdő) offers 7 pools, giant slides and a huge green area.

An integral part of the Szekszárd hills is the Gemenc Forest, which also offers plenty of attractions and activities. The Gemenc State Forest Railway is the only alluvial forestry little railway in Hungary. Its trail follows the Danube and Sió rivers along a 30 km track through the Gemenc Forest. The Ecotourism Center is open every day, and the forestry railway at its final destination, Pörböly, operates on a weekend schedule from spring to autumn.

In addition, in this area we can find many towns and cities: Báta, Bikal, Decs, Őcsény, Óbánya, Sötétvölgy, Baja, Mohács, Pécsvárad and Pécs with a numerous interesting sights and activities.

The Jolanda Guest House is a renovated, well-maintained, cosy, authentic Swabian family house, preserving the traditional architectural style. The walls of the house are pleasantly cool even in the summer. According to the division of the accommodation space, which preserves the architectural tradition, makes the Guest House ideal for families and big groups of friends.

The Guest House has 75 m 2 of living space and can comfortably accommodate 8 people in 8 single beds. Guests can rest in 3 (inter communicating) spacious and comfortable rooms. One of the rooms is designed to let the guests spend their time together in a cosy environment.
Besides, a cosy patio and a room in the outbuilding are also available for the guests who can enjoy a meal and spend their time together.

The kitchen is well equipped with cutlery, silverware and cookware sets and includes kitchen appliances: gas range and stove, microwave, toaster, fridge, coffee and tea making machine.

The House has 1 shared bathroom with a toilet, a sink and a shower, and has 1washroom with a toilet and a sink. Hot water is provided by a 120 l electric water heater.

There is a closed court with parking and barbecue area.

- The owner does not live in the property.
- NO PETS ARE ALLOWED IN THE GUEST HOUSE.
- Smoking is only allowed in the smoking area outside the living area of the Guest House.
- Each reservation is for the entire building, so only the guests who have made the reservation are allowed in the building.
- Only registered guests are allowed in the Guest House at night and during the day. - If, for any reason, guests wish to diverge from this, please make arrangements in advance at the time of booking so the situation can be considered.
- Events can NOT be organized in the Guest House.
- TV is in the living room with basic pay TV channels.
- The wifi is free of charge.
- Guests can store their clothes in the room with street view in a large wardrobe with 3 drawers, in the middle room with a hanger and a chest of drawers, and in the living room with a standing wardrobe with 1 drawer. Travel bags can be stored on the top of the large wardrobe with 3 drawers.
- Bed linen (1 large pillow+1 small pillow+1 duvet+ 1 blanket+ duvet cover+1 bed blanket) and 1-1 towels and bath towels per person are provided.
- For longer stays, bed linen and towels are changed once a week and cleaning is provided by prior arrangement.
- A washbasin, broom, dustpan, cloth dryer, ironing board, iron, hairdryer, sewing kit, toilet paper, soap, dishwashing liquid, kitchen towel, closed waste bin with lid, shower curtain and shower door, and an information leaflet of the area's tourist attractions are available for the guests.
- There are also indoor and outdoor games of skill for adults and children.
- Meals can be served in the kitchen, outside in the court and in the outbuilding.
- For cooking in the court, a gas bottle and a Hungarian goulash kettle are provided on request for an occasional fee of 1.000 HUF.
- The house can be heated by electric and gas convectors. These can be operated during the heating period with the cooperation of the owner.
- Upon request, we can also provide a baby cot, bed linen, baby bath, high chair, child toilet seat, step stool and baby toys for the kids.
- Private parking is free of charge on the property.
- Tourist tax is currently 0 HUF.

- Latest departure time for guests: 10:00 AM
- Guests are kindly requested to bring their ID card, passport or driving licence with them; it’s a very important condition for using the Guest House. The reason is: from 1 September 2021, in accordance with applicable laws, the personal data required by law of guests procuring accommodation services in Hungary shall be recorded in the Property Management System (PMS) through a ID scanner and be transmitted to a storage space. Guests who do not present their identity card will not be accepted. According to the Government Decree 584/2021 (X.14.), guests under the age of 14 are not required to present an identification document.
- There is a Catholic Mass or Liturgy of the Word on Sunday mornings in Szálka from 11:15 AM.
