Csekefalva (Cechesti) - geographical location:
Western Romania (Transylvania), Hargitha county

Csekefalva is a little village of 250 inhabitants in the heart of the so-called ‘land of the Szekelys’. The szekelys are a unique Hungarian ethnic group. Originally they were the frontier guards of Hungary’s eastern boarders, therefore they are a very tough and ingenious people. Great storytellers, great drinkers, who has kept their songs, their folk tales and their gastronomy, thus saving their peculiar culture and traditions for the next generation. Be the very same slice of soil their family has lived on for hundreds of years Hungarian, Romanian or EU territory.

Csekefalva is in the southern part of Hargita county, halfway between Odorieu Secuiesc and Sigishoara. The closest town is Cristuru Secuiesc (about 2 km, 1.2 miles). The village is located in the picturesque valley of the ‘Gagy’ creek. Thanks to its central location in Székelyföld (‘The Land of the Szekelys’: corresponding to the today’s territory of Harghita, Covasna and Mures county) the Arpad pension in Csekefalva is a great basis for day or two-day trips in the area. Almost all the natural and historical wonders of Transylvania are in less than 150 km or 100 miles distance from the village.

Intact Nature: the enchanting pine-woods of the Carpathians, the Harghita mountains are a great destination for hiking and climbing.

Historical sights: medieval castles and old towns, traditional villages, hidden churches with frescoes dating back to the middle ages, and last but not least - with a unique architecture - the fortress-churches of Transylvania’s German villages.
